Controlled Renewal. Layer by Layer.

Chemical peels are one of the oldest and most effective tools in dermatology — when the concentration, depth, and acid are chosen by a provider who understands your skin. Medical-grade formulations. Provider-supervised protocols. Real results.

Peel Depth

The Depth Spectrum

Not all peels are created equal. Depth determines what the peel treats, how long recovery takes, and how dramatic the results will be. Your provider selects the right depth for your skin type and concerns.

Superficial Medium Deep
Superficial

Surface Renewal

Targets the outermost layer of skin (epidermis) to brighten, smooth texture, and address mild discoloration. The gentlest option with minimal downtime — often called a "lunchtime peel."

Best for: dull skin, mild uneven tone, fine texture irregularities, maintenance between deeper treatments.

AcidsGlycolic, Lactic, Mandelic
Medium

Structural Reset

Penetrates through the epidermis into the upper dermis, triggering a deeper wound-healing response. This is where real collagen remodeling begins and where stubborn pigmentation and scarring start to resolve.

Best for: sun damage, moderate hyperpigmentation, acne scarring, fine lines, melasma.

Deep

Full Resurface

Reaches the mid-to-lower dermis for maximum collagen regeneration and dramatic skin renewal. Reserved for significant sun damage, deep scarring, and advanced skin concerns. Requires careful patient selection.

Best for: deep wrinkles, severe sun damage, pronounced scarring, significant textural irregularities.

What Peels Treat

Chemical peels address a wide range of skin concerns by removing damaged outer layers and stimulating the skin's natural repair mechanisms.

Acne Scarring

Medium and deep peels smooth pitted and textured acne scars by triggering collagen remodeling in the dermis.

Sun Damage

Removes photoaged skin layers to reveal healthier tissue beneath. Addresses rough texture, dark spots, and precancerous changes.

Hyperpigmentation

Breaks up excess melanin deposits and accelerates cell turnover to fade dark spots, age spots, and post-inflammatory marks.

Fine Lines

Stimulates collagen and elastin production in the upper dermis, softening fine lines around the eyes, mouth, and forehead.

Uneven Texture

Removes the rough, dull outer layer of skin to reveal smoother, more refined texture and improved light reflection.

Melasma

Carefully calibrated peels can help manage melasma's stubborn pigmentation — but require expert selection of acid type and depth to avoid worsening the condition.

The Distinction

Medical-Grade vs. Spa-Grade

The peels available at a day spa and the peels administered in a clinical setting are fundamentally different treatments.

Spa-Grade Peels

  • Low concentrations — restricted by law to mild, superficial formulations
  • Performed by aestheticians — limited scope of practice, cannot assess deeper skin conditions
  • One-size-fits-all — limited ability to customize acid type, concentration, or layering
  • Surface-level results — brightening and mild smoothing, but cannot address scarring, deep pigment, or structural concerns
  • No medical oversight — complications are managed by referral, not on-site

Medical-Grade Peels

  • Full-strength formulations — access to concentrations and acids not available outside clinical settings
  • NP-administered — performed by a provider who understands your skin at a dermatological level
  • Customized to your skin — acid type, concentration, number of layers, and exposure time all tailored to your skin type and concerns
  • Structural results — penetrates deep enough to trigger real collagen remodeling and resolve stubborn conditions
  • Clinical safety — immediate management of any reaction, plus full medical history context

Chemical Peels FAQ

Downtime varies by depth. Superficial peels have little to no downtime with mild flaking for 1-3 days. Medium peels involve 5-7 days of visible peeling. Deep peels require 7-14 days of recovery. Your provider recommends the appropriate depth based on your concerns and schedule.

This depends on your concerns and peel depth. Superficial peels are typically done in a series of 4-6 treatments spaced 2-4 weeks apart. Medium peels may require 2-3 sessions spaced 6-8 weeks apart. Deep peels often achieve significant results in a single session. Your provider creates a treatment plan during consultation.

Peels can be performed on most skin types, but the acid, concentration, and depth must be customized. Darker skin tones require careful selection to minimize the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. This is where provider experience matters — our NP has 20+ years of adapting protocols to individual skin types and concerns.

Your provider may recommend a pre-peel skincare regimen 2-4 weeks before treatment, which may include retinoids, vitamin C, or other topicals to prepare your skin for optimal results. Avoid sun exposure, waxing, and certain products in the days before your peel. Detailed pre-care instructions are provided during consultation.
